Our position
AI is a tool, and we prefer to treat it as such. Whatever route you choose, we guarantee error-free and user-friendly translations. What we can't guarantee with AI is the same level of creativity, because creativity takes time and effort that AI-assisted translation rarely gets.
For translations that make the most of the Norwegian market, we highly recommend going human-only.
What we use AI for
We use AI to support our own work — never as a substitute for the translator. Typical uses are:
Research. Background reading on your product, your industry and the terminology around it.
Style guides and glossaries. Drafting and maintaining terminology lists and reference material, which a linguist then reviews and approves.
Quality assurance. Consistency sweeps, terminology checks, and catching missed placeholders or broken tags before delivery.
Internal work. Administration and process work that doesn't involve your content at all.
Translation memories, term bases and the CAT tools we've always used aren't generative AI, and we don't treat them as such. They store and reuse translations that humans have already made and approved.
What we don't do
We don't use AI to translate your content, unless you've specifically ordered AI-assisted review.
We don't paste confidential or unpublished client content into free, public chatbots or consumer AI tools. We don't use free AI tiers for client work at all.
We don't permit your content to be used for training public or third-party AI models.
We don't deliver AI output that a human linguist hasn't read and corrected in full.
Your options
You decide how much AI is involved in your project. There are two routes, and we'll tell you plainly which one we think fits your content.
Route one
Full human localization
Translated from scratch by a human, tailored to your brand voice, UX and marketing flows. No AI is used in the translation itself. This is what we recommend for anything users read closely: onboarding, payment flows, marketing, and any copy meant to persuade.
Route two
AI-assisted review
You provide the AI-generated content, and we polish it, fix context errors and secure the quality. It's the cost-effective option, and it's a reasonable choice for high-volume, low-risk content. We want you to go into it knowing both sides.
Where AI genuinely helps
Speed. Faster first drafts on high-volume, low-risk content.
Budget. Cheaper than human-only translation.
Consistency at scale. With training, a model can pick up your tone of voice, terminology and product knowledge.
Where it falls short
Quality. Tone and syntax tend to be anglicized. Mistranslations and overly literal translations are common.
UI context. Most AI struggles to follow rules like character limits, even when they're spelled out.
Accountability. With raw AI translation, the accountability sits with you. With a human reviewer, it sits with us.
Confidentiality and your content
Everyone who works on your content is bound by a signed non-disclosure agreement. That covers our own team and any partner we bring in for the other Scandinavian languages.
Where we use AI, we use Gemini inside our Google Workspace subscription. Under Workspace terms, the content we put into it isn't used to train Google's models and isn't reviewed by humans outside the service. We don't use free or consumer AI tiers for client work, because those terms generally don't offer the same protection.
If you have your own AI policy, security requirements or approved-tool list, send it to us and we'll work within it. If you need us to avoid AI entirely, including for research and glossary work, we can do that. Tell us in writing before the project starts and we'll confirm it in the project terms.
Human accountability
A named person at InNorwegian is responsible for every delivery. When something is wrong, you have a human to ask, and we fix it. That doesn't change based on which route you choose.
Questions about any of this, or a requirement you'd like us to meet? Email [email protected] and we'll confirm the arrangement for your project in writing.
